Furniture finishes can range from all wood to two-tone to all paint. A lot depends on the condition of the piece and the existing wood surfaces. A wood-paint combo seems to be a happy medium to showcase the range of woods old furniture was made from and update to a more modern look with a painted finish. 

Furniture can either serve as a focal point of the room or sit back and allow other items to be the focus, like a beautiful painting or colorful furniture. 

When choosing paint, try to think about the existing room color, other furniture in the room, and if you want your piece to be showcased.

Hardware is what jewerly is to the perfect outfit. It should compliment the overall look of the piece. Sometimes hardware can be reused and looks great, other times it needs an update. I purchase a lot of hardware from Amazon or D. Lawless hardware. 

Accents are just those details that take a piece to a whole other level. Wallpaper backgrounds, lining drawers, adding legs or other elements to existing pieces, hand painted custom designs, and stencils just to name a few.
